Good ferry trip to Victoria

I booked the Seattle to Victoria ferry for a weekend trip with my family back in May. The online booking process was straightforward enough, though I had to double-check the dates a couple of times to make sure I got it right. We went with the standard class seats, which were comfortable enough for the ride. Boarding was pretty organized at the Seattle terminal, and we arrived in Victoria right on schedule. The staff onboard were professional and helpful when we asked about customs procedures. Disembarking was also smooth. Overall, a solid service for getting between the two cities.

Smooth ride, but small issue

We took the Victoria Clipper from Seattle to Victoria for a short vacation. The booking was easy online, and I appreciated being able to add on the Butchart Gardens tour at the same time. The ferry left on time and the ride was very smooth, even on a slightly choppy day. We upgraded to premium class seating and it was worth it for the extra space and included drinks. My only minor complaint was that the line for coffee at the onboard cafe was quite long both ways. Otherwise, a very pleasant experience.

Decent price for a quick getaway

I was looking for a cheap weekend trip and found a seasonal web special for the Victoria Day trip. It wasn't a huge discount, maybe 15% off, but every little bit helps when you're on a budget. The price felt pretty fair for the round trip. The ferry itself was clean. I think I got good value for what I paid.

Wondering about the check-in process. How early should I really show up before my departure time for the Clipper ferry?

N Nick Q. 2 months ago
They say an hour, and I'd stick to that, especially if it's busy or during peak season. You gotta clear customs and drop luggage. Better safe than sorry.

I usually get there 45 mins before and it's been fine, but I travel light and have nexus. If you have bags to check or no nexus, definitely an hour.

Hey guys, thinking of booking the Seattle to Victoria ferry for a trip next month. Anyone know if there's usually a good deal around this time of year?

C Colin Foster 1 month ago
Yeah, check their website. They often have 'seasonal web specials' or sometimes early bird discounts if you book far enough in advance. I got one for a spring trip last year.

They do have those resident rates too, if you're in WA or BC. Worth checking if that applies to you, can save a bit.

Just realized I booked my Clipper tickets for the wrong date. Is it a pain to change the booking online, or can I do it easily?

I Ivy 2 months ago
You should be able to change it online, but there might be a fee or a fare difference depending on how close to the travel date you are. Check their 'manage booking' section.

I had to change mine once, and it was pretty straightforward online. Just be aware of any change fees, they can pop up.

Planning a spontaneous trip to Victoria next week. How long does the ferry ride usually take from Seattle?

T Tara 2 months ago
It's about 2 hours and 45 minutes, give or take a few minutes depending on conditions. Pretty smooth ride usually.

M Marcus S. 2 months ago
Yeah, just under 3 hours. Make sure you get there early though, customs can take a bit and they recommend arriving like an hour before.

Thinking of taking the Clipper with my family, including my toddler. Can I bring a stroller on board, and what's the deal with car seats?

S Shane B. 1 month ago
Strollers are fine, I've seen tons of them. For car seats, I think you just hold your kid or they sit in a regular seat. It's not like a plane where they need their own FAA-approved seat, afaik.

You can definitely bring a stroller. For car seats, usually not needed as it's more like bus seating, but check their luggage policy for any size restrictions.
